Now There's a Hottie

Well, it's true what they say, you learn something new every day. Today, for instance, I learned that it's in not always a wise choice to hit up google images when looking for a filler picture for your blog. Apparently that's not a bad way to piss people off. Lesson learned. Well, we'll see anyway.

Wondering what the heck I'm talking about? Note my post on "The Mole" below. Where that crazy witch-like image is appearing used to be a picture of Anderson Cooper. The little switcheroo happened when a fellow blogger realized I used the same picture they had on their blog and was upset. I don't really know all the details on this faux pas yet, but it's definitely something to consider going forward. We've got a nice little neighborhood of writers here and you don't really want to tick off the community. So if anyone has any words of wisdom they'd like to share on "hotlinking" photos I'm all ears.

In the meantime I've kind of grown fond of the crazy-toothed guy that currently appears in Anderson's place.

Honestly though, I must offer my dearest apologies up to Effluent as well as my thanks. Any traffic's good traffic, so thanks for that! I'm happy to return the favor.

Take care all!

P.S. Gay, straight, somewhere in between---- Anderson Cooper will always be a cutie in my book. Maybe not as cute as that awesome green guy that's there now.... but competition can get tough ;).

lol! We have all fallen foul of google searching for images to use in posts. I did the same on the odd occasion when I started my blog. Now that I enjoy experimenting with my camera so much, I try to think of a way of capturing my own photo to support a post (you could set Goat a weekly task to take photos for your posts...lol!). However, this is not always possible.

I guess that the best thing to do when you haven't got an appropriate photograph in your own library, is to either use "stock" photographs from a stock site, or add a link to the website who's photograph you have borrowed (providing them with recognition and exposure).

Anywayz, I have seen my photographs on a few sites over the past 12 months... I kinda take it as a compliment that somebody likes my work :) If it is a photograph that I want to ensure people know it is by me, then I add my signature to it.

ps. I love "The mole", we have it over here in England, although it hasn't been on for a couple of years. I enjoyed watching the US version of it too!!! I'm gonna search the net and check on cable to see if I can watch the new US series.

Have a lovely weekend :D

daszzle,

The original picture of Anderson Cooper is back in your post now. Sorry, but I made the little green man go away.

FYI. You aren't just using the same picture as I am. You're literally hotlinking to the copy of the picture that lives on my blog server. It showed up in Technorati as a back link to my post, which it really isn't. If you catch my drift....

I load all my pictures onto my server. I never, ever hotlink to photos on other people's blogs.

One thing you may have noticed from my little escapade is that by hotlinking to my photo, you essentially gave me a limited level of control over what happens on your blog. You really shouldn't allow that to happen.

I wasn't upset, by the way. It just gave me a wonderful opportunity to have some fun.

Thanks for that!

Yeah, I always save the pics first and upload them so that there are no links, even if I do reference them when I'm done.

As for "wearing the same dress" as somebody else, meh, I don't particularly care.

What I do care about is if I randomly start a method of writing (like my "day in numbers" thing) and somebody reads my blog and does it on theirs and doesn't say where they got the idea from.

That I have a problem with.

(Never you, don't worry. ;))

Anyway, lesson learned. Thanks for the help all :)!
